Van Handel Family Expands Trucking Presence
Eric Van Handel, President of Midwest Carriers, Purchases Osborn & Son Trucking
Kaukauna, WI (20 July 2021) – Eric Van Handel, President of Midwest Carriers, recently purchased Osborn & Son Trucking in Fond du Lac, Wis., from Dean and Sandy Osborn. Osborn & Son Trucking has been in the Osborn family for 123 years, and after many years of ownership, the Osborns are ready to retire. Dean, Sandy and Eric saw the purchase of Osborn & Son Trucking as an opportunity for education and growth between the two companies.
While Dean and Sandy are ready to retire, many Osborn family members will stay working with the company and continue the Osborn tradition. “Their 123-year history is a testament to the Osborn’s success and their vast knowledge of the trucking industry. We’re excited to learn from them. We’ll be able to learn from each other.” Van Handel said.
Osborn & Son currently runs 21 tractors and 60 trailers, mostly refrigerated. They operate out of their large Fond du Lac facility with consolidation facilities in Edison, N.J., and Bolingbrook, IL. Their primary focus of business is alcohol transportation and logistics. Van Handel was attracted to Osborn & Son, in part, because the transportation of alcohol is not significantly affected by economic downturns. “Dean has built a really great, unique, niche on the east coast providing value for customers in the Midwest.”
Along with the purchase of Osborn & Son Trucking, Van Handel also purchased Three-D Brokers. Van Handel stated that they plan to grow this business segment, and that Three-D Brokers will provide current Midwest Carriers customers access to additional capacity and creative solutions. The move will help Midwest Carriers and Osborn & Son extend care of their current customer base, as well as create exciting new partnerships.
While Midwest Carriers and Osborn & Son Trucking will operate separately, Van Handel is currently developing synergies between the companies. Overall, Van Handel believes the purchase will enhance the efficiency of all three companies.
Midwest Carriers was started in 1986 by Eric’s parents, Dave and Marge Van Handel. Eric was named President of Midwest Carriers in 2017 and has continued to honor the company’s legacy of positively impacting others by growing the company’s fleet and scope of operation. Altogether, the three companies’ employ 210 dedicated associates, operate 180 tractors and 550 trailers.
